American Airlines first-class passenger finds bedbug crawling on leg during flight: ‘Nightmare fuel’

The phrase should be “safe flight, don’t let the bugs bite”.

An American Airlines passenger experienced the latest flying mare after discovering a bug crawling on their leg during a flight from New York City to Detroit. They described the tingling sensation on a Reddit after it went viral.

The crazy flyer, who goes by @HaddawayThrowaway978, reportedly discovered the walker while sitting in “first class” on American Airlines flight 4412 from La Guardia.

“I found this bug crawling on my leg mid-flight,” they wrote in the comments. “I put it on the cocktail napkin to show the FA who immediately informed the captain using the phone/intercom.”

Included was a photo of the napkin with the said bloodsucker, who reportedly tried to bite the passenger’s finger while it was being transferred to the cloth, according to a follow-up comment.

Fearing an infection, the Redditor reportedly changed their clothes at the airport and “stuffed them in their bags.”

“They are washing right now”, they wrote. “Hopefully no ordeals would get into my backpack or check my bag while changing clothes.”

Haddaway wrote that they hoped he was grounded due to tourism, but checked and found he was “immediately back to LGA and then to Tulsa!”

They wrote that they have since filed a complaint with American Airlines, which issued an “extremely unpleasant” response.

“Please accept my deepest apologies for the experience you described,” they wrote, via the thread. “Our commitment to putting you at the heart of everything we do is unwavering and your comments underscore that commitment. Be sure; your insights will be made available to our leadership team as we work to ensure we deliver the high-quality customer experience you deserve.”

Redditors sympathized with the passenger’s plight, writing, “Nightmare fuel, I always check, but it’s hard to get hold of on a plane.”

Another joked: “How did you think the bug was going to Detroit? Like you, they will choose the airline with the lowest fares.”

“This is a teenage bug, not yet an adult. There’s a good chance there might be eggs on that plane,” wrote a third.

While certainly rare, bed bug infestations are not unheard of in the friendly skies.

In 2017, Canadian passengers were bitten by creepy-crawlies on a British Airways flight from Vancouver, BC to London, UK.

Pest control experts say flyers can mitigate the chances of catching an unwanted occupant by covering their seats with specially made covers, placing luggage inside plastic bags and packing your own pillow and blanket instead of using your own. airline.
